What is Internet Radio?

Internet radio is just like any AM or FM radio station except you listen to it while your computer (equipped with sound card and speakers) is connected to the Internet. One major and very important difference between a normal AM/FM radio station and its Internet counterpart is the size of the audience it can reach. Even the more powerful AM/FM radio transmitters in the Roanoke area have a very limited geographic reach. An Internet radio station, on the other hand, reaches the world. The size of the listening audience for an Internet radio station can be thousands of times larger than its AM/FM counterpart.

What is Olde Surber Station Radio?

Live365.com is the best known Internet radio network. They host thousands of Internet radio stations that play music in just about every conceivable genre. For example, there are presently sixty-one Live365 Internet radio stations that play bluegrass, old time and country music. One of these Live365 Internet radio stations is Olde Surber Station Radio, owned and operated by Jack and Carol Lewis (of the Oriskany Strings) as part of their new country lodge. Olde Surber Station Radio is of special interest because it only plays bluegrass, gospel and old time string band music by bands NOT associated with a major recording label.
