Fall Kickoff this Saturday
- September 23, 2006
The Oriskany
Strings and the Original
Orchard Grass Old Time Band will again kickoff our fall
season this year with some really great old-time music.
The Oriskany Strings is a well known regional band popular
for their costumes, vocalist and diverse musical styles
including bluegrass, gosepl and old-time. The Original Orchard
Grass Old Time Band is considered by many to be the finest
old-time band in south and has some of the finest musicians
and vocalists in our area. Jack Lewis of Olde
Surber Station Radio will be there helping to kickoff
the "James River Music Hall Radio Show" that he
broadcasts on his internet radio station every Saturday
evening from 7 to 11 PM.
Welcome!
The James River Music
Hall at Eagle Rock, Virginia is owned by Harold Cook and
Tommy Jordan and operated as a not-for-profit organization
dedicated to the preservation of bluegrass and classic old
time country music. Every second and fourth Saturday of
each month the music hall hosts four local bands. Each band
plays for about one hour to an often standing room only
full house. Admission is $5.00 and these fees are used to
pay the bands, monthly utilities, and equipment and facilities
maintenance costs.
Several volunteers help
Harold and Tommy operate the hall before, during and after
each show. These volunteers
order and sell refreshments, operate the audio recording
equipment, clean the facilities and a multitude of other
tasks that keep the music hall in operation. This is a fun
venue for bands and the audience is enthusiastic and supportive.
Tommy Jordan usually handles
the bookings and introduces each band during the show. Tommy's
humorous and delightful introductions and commentary on
each band is a big part of the show. For more information,
