There are a lot of great bluegrass, gospel and old-time
bands that never get heard except when they perform live.
It's very hard for these indie bands (independent bands
not associated with a major recording label) to reach out
to a broader audience by way of airplay on conventional
AM and FM radio stations. Even to those few bands that do
get some airplay, their listening audience is still local
due to the limited geographical reach of the radio station
transmitters. Should a listener of a local radio station
like a band's music, where do they go to buy their albums?
Major stores in the area won't carry their CDs.
The Internet is changing this. Olde Surber Station Internet
Radio, gives indie artists a world wide audience for their
music and provides links to their website and online retailers
where listeners can go to buy their albums. If you're an
indie bluegrass, gospel or old-time band, contact me (Jack
Lewis) by phone at 540-567-2000 or email at JackLewis@surberstation.com
and I will provide you with details on how to get "airplay"
on this radio station.
